Where Can I Get Started in Computer Support?

The ASPIRA City College’s Computer Support Specialists Program makes it easy to combine technical aptitude and people skills. You can choose to attend online or on-campus and select from one of three class schedules to suit your needs. Our industry-focused program requires the completion of 62 credits during four semesters and provides students with knowledge and skill the following areas:

 

  • Installing and configuring applications
  • Working with free-standing and networked desktop computers
  • Installing, configuring, and supporting internal and external networks
  • Analyzing information needs
  • Structured Cabling; Routers and Routing
  • Monitoring and maintaining computing device requirements
  • Intro to Linux Operating Systems
  • Network Operations & Emerging Technologies
  • Database Management SQL

Students start by learning the fundamentals of PC technology, written communication, computer programming, and math for information technology. Then coursework then advances to topics like structures cabling, electronic communications, and troubleshooting, database management, advanced server technology, and more.  As part of the learning experience, students have the benefit of a 190-hour computer support externship to apply the knowledge and skills gained in the classroom to the workplace. Thanks to the all-important externship, students have the chance to interact with other IT professionals, build real-work experience, and develop greater confidence, making them well positioned for gainful employment after graduation.

After completing the Computer Support Specialist Program at ASPIRA City College, students are eligible to sit for respected third-party credential exams including, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+ and CompTIA Security+.

When to Get Started

You can start right now. As a student in our AST Degree Computer Support Specialist Program, you choose to attend classes online or on-campus in North Philadelphia, and you select the class schedule that best suits your needs for completing your degree. These include

Traditional Day Program

Students attend courses for 20 months with classes held on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:0 p.m. This program does not meet during the summer.

Fast-Track Day Program

Get on the fast-track to graduation by completing your degree in just 15 months. Classes are held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with no summer break.

Evening Program

For those who need to work or care for family during the day, the evening program is available Monday through Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The program may be completed in 30 months.

Each program includes semester breaks and holidays throughout the academic calendar.
